If you’ve recently invested in a nice patio furniture set, or scored a steal of a deal from FB Marketplace and are looking for tips on how to keep it looking nice year after year… you’re in the right place!
For the past two years, my husband and I have slowly been working on creating an outdoor oasis for our family. Part of the investment included nice, comfortable patio furniture that we plan on keeping for many years to come.
In an attempt to create a space that feels just as cozy and welcoming as our home, we purchased several several outdoor couches, chairs and ottomans for our back patio. We also added 4 chaise lounges for our pool and dining chairs from the same set.
Once we had everything set up the way we liked it I immediately realized the potential for damage if we left these sitting outside day after day. I worried our beautiful beige cushions would fade in the sun or worse yet, be forever stained by the summer popsicles the kids love to eat by the pool. How would we protect them during the Midwest storms and harsh winters?
My husband and I agreed, we needed to do whatever we could to protect our investment.
I knew of a great non-toxic fabric protector that I used to protect our indoor furniture and wondered if it could be used outside. Turns out, it’s for both indoor and outdoor use! Yay!
What I love about this fabric protector is that it’s odorless, non flammable and doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals and it’s safe to use around pets. It also protects your outdoor furniture from UV light, it prevents stains because it repels liquids and lasts up to 3 years. It works on almost all fabric types (read product description for more on that). This large container was able to spray all sides of our patio cushions, including our 4 chaise lounge chairs on our pool deck.
My husband makes fun of me because I use this spray as a ‘party trick’ to show our friends how durable it is. I purposely spill a popsicle on our couch and love to watch everyone hold their breath as it literally drips off the fabric and doesn’t absorb. Our friends can’t believe their eyes as I magically wipe off the remaining droplets with a damp cloth and nothing is left. I seriously do this every time we have guests over… sometimes people will even ask if they can spill something on our furniture just so they can experience it for themselves. What can I say, adulting is fun, haha.

Our next concern was finding covers to protect our furniture during storms and for winter storage. Unfortunately, this particular set didn’t come with its own covers and I was surprised to find out most sets don’t. I was struggling to find basic covers large enough for our extra long couch and came across a company that makes custom covers.
Another investment, but absolutely worth it.
Seriously, this company is a hidden gem. This post is NOT sponsored therefore I won’t mention the company’s name but I have no problem telling my friends about it. You can customize more than just patio furniture covers, they also offer grill covers, outdoor curtains, car covers, solar shades and more.

All you have to do is measure your furniture pieces as requested. I highly suggest sending in a few photos of each piece at different angles (especially if it is unique). This company is so efficient, they will double check each measurement with you before it goes into production. They will typically email you, but if you don’t respond they will call you, which is great. Their customer service line is listed at the top of their website and they do answer.
All of my furniture is covered by the black ‘Cover Max’ material. It is VERY durable and exactly as described. I also ordered several inflatable pillows to prevent water from pooling on flat surfaces. Preventing rain water from sitting on the cover for too long will reduce any additional strain on the material and minimizes the risk of tears or leaks, ultimately extending the lifespan of your outdoor covers.
I know it’s tempting to purchase a basic tarp from the hardware store, but I wouldn’t risk it. If you feel compelled to purchase a cheap tarp, by all means try it out… but after it blows off, tears from wind damage and almost ruins your furniture, be sure to come back and use my link to save $30 off your custom covers.
We use these storage containers to store the covers and pillows and they are large enough to fit everything!
All in all we’ve had this set for 2 years and it still looks brand new. We plan on keeping them for as long as we can and have zero regrets in the lengths we’ve gone to protect our furniture. We choose to cover them when they aren’t in use to further prevent fading or wear.
